Woman Cheats Death: Brought Back to Life After 45 Minutes While Daughter Gives Birth
Kathy Patten had always been an active person, playing golf regularly and keeping herself in good shape. So, when she received the call that her daughter, Stacey Fifer, was in labor, she immediately rushed to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, excited to meet her new granddaughter.
But as she arrived at the hospital, she began to feel a strange sensation in her chest, a tightness that grew more and more intense by the moment. Suddenly, she collapsed onto the floor, her body wracked with pain. Patten had suffered a massive heart attack.
The medical staff at the hospital immediately sprang into action, rushing Patten to the emergency room and trying everything they could to revive her. But as time went on, her condition worsened, and her vital signs began to fail. Within a matter of moments, Patten was clinically dead.

But even as Patten lay lifeless on the operating table, her daughter was struggling with a difficult labor of her own. Baby Alora was stuck in Fifer’s birth canal, and doctors were telling her that she would need an emergency C-section surgery to safely deliver her daughter.
As the medical staff worked frantically to save both Patten and Alora, time seemed to stretch on endlessly. For 45 long minutes, Patten remained clinically dead, her heart silent, her lungs still. But just when all hope seemed lost, something miraculous happened. The doctors were able to revive Patten, shocking her heart back to life and restoring her vital signs.
“It was a truly incredible moment,” said Dr. Dov Frankel, one of the physicians who helped save Patten’s life. “We never give up hope, but in this case, it seemed like there was no way back. And yet, somehow, she pulled through.”
Patten was overjoyed to be alive, and even more thrilled to be reunited with her family. As she held her new granddaughter in her arms, tears streamed down her face, grateful for the second chance at life that had been given to her.
“I can’t believe I’m here,” she said. “I feel like I’ve been given a second lease on life. I’m going to make the most of every moment from now on.”
For Fifer, the birth of her daughter was a bittersweet experience. While she was thrilled to welcome a new member of the family into the world, she was also acutely aware of the danger her mother had faced.
“It was a really scary experience,” she said. “I was so worried about my mom, and at the same time, I was dealing with the stress of my own labor. But somehow, we all made it through.”
As the days went on, Patten slowly recovered from her heart attack, regaining her strength and energy little by little. She was amazed by the outpouring of support she received from her community, with friends and family rallying around her to offer their love and encouragement.
“I can’t believe how much people care,” she said. “It’s really humbling to see how many people have reached out to me and my family. I feel so lucky to have all of these wonderful people in my life.”
And as she reflected on her brush with death, Patten knew that she had been given a special gift – the gift of a second chance. From that moment on, she was determined to make the most of every moment, to cherish the time she had with her family and friends, and to live life to the fullest.
“I’m not going to take anything for granted,” she said. “I’m going to be the best person I can be, and I’m going to make the most of every day. I’m so grateful to be alive, and I’m going to make sure that everyone around
